Ministry of Defence – Defence Intellectual Property Group (DIPR): Our World, Our Work, and the Patents Act (Section 22 & 55)
I am delighted to announce that the Ministry of Defence have very kindly offered to host the next workshop session in the South West!
Thomas Phillips is a UK and European Qualified Patent Attorney. Tom is the UK Head of Profession for Intellectual Property across Government, a Supreme Court Advocate (a member of the ‘Super’ seven) and a current P6 examiner.
Emma Gardner is a UK and European Qualified Patent Attorney. Emma is responsible for managing the MoD Patent Portfolio and leads on training.
Tim Allsop is UK Qualified Patent Attorney. Tim is responsible for managing the MoD Merchandising Portfolio.
“This informative and entertaining session will take you on the roller coaster of a ride that is Intellectual Property across the Ministry of Defence and wider Government. Marvel at the interaction between IP Law and European Procurement Law in a complex multi-billion pound organisation where the primary objective is to support the British Military; gasp at the truth behind Crown Use; and gaze in wonder upon how s.22/23 work is really managed.
In the MoD, the client at first point of contact can be seeking a licence for merchandising, support in a contractual dispute, advice on EU Procurement Regulations, a Minister requiring a briefing on Intellectual Property, an inventor or a Government Department seeking an IP Exploitation strategy. The session will attempt to cover the sheer breadth of DIPRs world and work, covering some important legal points relating to IP Law and European Procurement Law, Merchandising, Crown Use, and Secret Patents; and offering practical advice that will be helpful in both exams and practice.”
