Informals Summer Social: Aberdeen

Date: Wednesday 17th August
Time: 6.45 pm
Venue: Slain’s Castle, Aberdeen

Join us for the Aberdeen Informals summer social!  As well as drinking and socializing with trainees from other firms, there’s a pub quiz on that evening, in which we can enter a team.  Like last time, we should receive funding for this from CIPA as long as there is representation from at least two companies, so this will almost certainly buy at least one freebie for everyone.

I’d like to book us a table so it would be helpful if you could confirm whether you can make it or not by emailing me at fcampbell@hgf.comLooking forward to seeing you all soon!

Next CIPA Informals South West Regional Event: Cardiff – Friday 1 July 2016

I am delighted to announce that Rhys Williams and Edward Nation of Abel & Imray have kindly agreed to host the next Informals workshop session, entitled “Dealing with the Lay Client”:

“It is likely that your client list includes large IP savvy firms that understand what makes an invention patentable, and the application and prosecution process. But what about a regular Joe from the street? Or a start-up about to enter the world of IP? Have you ever been caught off guard in a client meeting?  This informal seminar aims to prepare Informals for these situations through fun and interactive scenarios based on the personal experiences of attorneys at Abel & Imray.”

Times and Locations:

12:00 (TBC) – Meet at A&I’s Cardiff office (3rd Floor, 3 Assembly Square, Britannia Quay, Cardiff, CF10 4PL)

12:30 to 14:00 – Lunch in Cardiff bay (location TBC)

14:00 to 17:00 – Workshop by Rhys Williams and Edward Nation (held in the Wales Life Sciences Hub)

17:00 onwards – Food and drinks in Cardiff (location TBC)

The meeting room can hold up to about 20 people, so places on the workshop will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Please send an email to simoncarobene@greavesbrewster.co.uk to confirm your place as soon as possible. If you are unable to make the workshop but would like to meet up with us for drinks afterwards, please send me an email and I will forward you details of where we are going closer to the time.

When: Wednesday 20 January 2016 7pm to 9pm
Where: At-Bristol Science Centre, Rosalind Franklin Room, 2nd floor

Happy 2016 everyone! To kick start the South West Informals events for the year, I propose a group trip to watch the FameLab heats in Bristol.

FameLab is a communications competition designed to engage and entertain by breaking down science, technology and engineering concepts into short presentations.

Contestants have just three minutes to convey a scientific concept of their choice. They will be judged by leading researchers, media personalities and science policy makers on the content, clarity and charisma of their presentation.

To attend the event you will need to order your FREE ticket via Eventbrite – please click here to register. For more information about the event please see here and here.

I look forward to seeing some of you there!

Informals Social: South Coast

Following the success of the curry night last June in Southampton and the cheese and wine night a few months later in Brighton, we’re going to have another social event on 18 March to celebrate end of EQEs and, well, because we can! It’ll be in Eastleigh this time (I’ll continue to alternate the larger events) and it’d be great to see as many of you there as possible. Further details will follow, but we’ll meet at a convenient time for everybody to make it down, and will either book a group go-karting session or bowling, depending on what attendees and their wallets would prefer, followed by some drinks and food of some sort. Hope to see you all there, and please email me at dak@dyoung.com should you have any questions!
