All student members of CIPA and part-qualified trainees are invited to the Informals Christmas Party on Thursday 18 December!
This year the party is FREE and festive drinks and mince pies will be provided. Santa hats are strongly encouraged.
For all of you on the Queen Mary Course, it’s a final chance to let your hair down with your fellow trainees before revision begins!
See you at CIPA Hall on 18 December, from 6.30pm!
The Informals’ Social and Regional Secretaries have been busy organising events for you across the UK. We hope you can make it to one of them.
Some of the events are mentioned in the November issue of the Yellow Sheet, which should be making its way to your desks soon. This month’s issue has info on upcoming socials and lots of education-related news. If you really can’t wait for it to arrive you can download a copy from the CIPA website now (http://www.cipa.org.uk/pages/YSA)
- Trainees in the Midlands may be interested in attending the Informals’ Christmas dinner on 09 December in Nottingham. Email Sara Holland for more details or to confirm your attendance.
- As previously mentioned on the blog, the first event in the South West of England has been postponed until 04 December. Trainees in the South West and in South Wales are invited to Goldbrick House, Park Street, Bristol, from 6pm. The event is being subsidised by the Informals, so everyone who attends will get a free drink! Please contact Simon Carobene if you can attend or would like more information.
- The London Social Secretaries invite you all to the annual Informals’ Christmas Party. Come along for a festive get together at CIPA Hall, Thursday 18 December from 6.30pm ‘til late. Festive drinks and mince pies will be provided. Contact Barbara Durling for more info.
- Trainees in Birmingham should keep an eye on the blog and check for emails from Daniel Wolstenholme about December drinks at the Christmas market in Birmingham.
Just a quick reminder that…

Informals Social Secretaries
Seasons’ greetings from Seth Roberts and Ben Oakley; we are the new CIPA Informals Regional Secretaries for Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. We are taking over from Steven Pediani and Tim Kim, and we hope to continue their good work in arranging social events and tutorials for the trainees in the region.
We’re aiming to arrange informal get-togethers on at least a quarterly basis, and the first event will be in January, after the Christmas rush:
Date: 09 January 2014
Venue: Thai restaurant TBC (central Oxford)
Please let us know if you can make it. Once we have an idea of numbers we will be able to book the restaurant and see if we can get any good deals (like the free wine at the curry a while ago). There is also likely to be a small subsidy to the bill provided by CIPA, like there has been for these events in the past. We are aiming to make a booking on the 14 December, so if you could let us know if you would like to come along by then, that would be great.
If you know of anyone who has not been included in the mailing list, please forward this email to them and let us know. Although this is an Informals meeting, we do not want to exclude any qualified attorneys who may want to come along and socialise, so please feel free to invite anyone who wants to come!
We hope to see you on the 9 January.
Ben Oakley & Seth Roberts
(Regional Secretaries – Oxford)
I’m planning on rounding-off this year’s social events in Cambridge with a Christmas Curry Night!
The curry night will be taking place on Tuesday 10 December, at 7.30pm in Cocum, a Keralan restaurant on Castle Street. We’ll probably meet earlier in a nearby pub for drinks. Details will be confirmed closer to the time.
If you would like to attend the meal, please let me know by Wedneday 27 November. You’re welcome to just come along to the pub beforehand if you prefer.
I hope to see you then.
(Regional Secretary – Cambridge)
All those who are student members of CIPA, new to the profession and UK Exams Tutors (for all your hard work preparing members for their UK exams) put Thursday 12 December in your diaries!
This year the party is FREE and there will be plenty of drinks and nibbles to get stuck into. For all of you on Queen Mary it’s a final chance to let your hair down with your fellow trainees before revision begins!
See you in CIPA Hall on 12 December from 6.30pm!
Informals Social Secretaries
The CIPA Informals Christmas drinks are on Tuesday 13 December. The party will be taking place from 6 pm in the lower bar (aka Santa’s Grotto) at the Sir Christ-massy Hatton (just around the corner from Chancery Lane Underground station) [I approve of the dreadful pun – more of this sort of thing please. – Ed].
You know you want to.
