Informals Summer Social: Aberdeen

Date: Wednesday 17th August
Time: 6.45 pm
Venue: Slain’s Castle, Aberdeen

Join us for the Aberdeen Informals summer social!  As well as drinking and socializing with trainees from other firms, there’s a pub quiz on that evening, in which we can enter a team.  Like last time, we should receive funding for this from CIPA as long as there is representation from at least two companies, so this will almost certainly buy at least one freebie for everyone.

I’d like to book us a table so it would be helpful if you could confirm whether you can make it or not by emailing me at fcampbell@hgf.comLooking forward to seeing you all soon!

Scotland Informals Social and Updates

Hello all,
I would like to introduce myself as the new CIPA Informals regional secretary for Scotland and take this opportunity to invite you to our first event for trainees and newly-qualified attorneys in Scotland.

Drinks Event
We will be meeting for drinks in Edinburgh on Thursday 6 November from 6pm at Indigo Yard, Charlotte Lane.  If you’re not sure of the location or don’t know Edinburgh well, Indigo Yard can be found here and is a short walk from both Haymarket and Waverley Stations.  Thanks to CIPA subsidies, some of the drinks should also be on the house!

Future Events
I plan on hosting several events throughout the year, which I will also try to spread throughout Scotland (and at least between Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen), so that everyone has an opportunity to get involved.  If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please do get in touch.

Mailing List
There is now a mailing list for trainees in Scotland.  If you know of any trainees in your firm or area who have not been included, please do send me an email with their details.

I hope to meet you all very soon!

More events across the UK

You may recall that last month we announced we were looking for volunteers to form the 2014-15 Informals Committee. A number of trainees from across the UK have recently let us know that they would like to see more Informals events take place outside of London. The Informals Regional Secretaries already organise social events in a number of regions/cities outside of London already (i.e. in Cambridge, Birmingham, Oxford and “The North”).  However, we realise that as the profession has moved away from being primarily London-based, so too should the Informals increase their presence across the UK.

This week, the current Informals Committee met up to discuss (among other things) better representing trainees from all over the UK.  We are pleased to announce the creation of new Regional Secretary roles in:

  • Scotland (covering at least Glasgow and Edinburgh) – taken on by Michael Ford;
  • the Midlands (covering Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) – taken on by Sara Holland;
  • the South West (covering Bristol, Bath and even S. Wales) – taken on by Simon Carobene.

We hope that trainees, part-qualified and newly-qualified attorneys (both in private practice and in-house) will attend the events run by the new Reg. Secs., particularly since free drinks may be on offer!  If there are any other areas in the UK where we could organise social events, please get in touch.
