The committee organises an annual visit to the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO), which provides trainees with an opportunity to see inside the UKIPO and meet examiners. Typically, these are arranged in the summer and are always extremely popular. The trips include lectures from senior examiners at the UKIPO on topics such as “excluded subject matter” and “accelerated processing”, and one-on-one discussions with an examiner to see how they work.
This year, the visits are taking place on 5 June and 20 June. The visits will provide a great opportunity for trainee attorneys to see the inner workings of the UK IPO and to meet examiners. The events will include:
– An “introduction to the IPO” talk;
– A lecture on Excluded Matter;
– At-the-desk sessions with examiners during which they will explain the software they use and how they go about their job;
– A Claims Drafting Workshop
